Osteopathy for Women

As we approach International Women’s Day on 8th March 2023, we thought we would highlight some of the benefits osteopathy can offer to women.

A woman’s body goes through significant physical changes throughout their life and osteopathy can help to realign muscles and joints, in turn restoring balance within the structure of the body.

Menstrual Pain

Whilst most women experience some form of period pain in their lives, some suffer from extreme pain on a monthly basis.  Some of this pain can be caused by congestion in the pelvis due to blood not making it to the muscles in the area.  Osteopaths can work to improve blood supply and drainage in the pelvic area, which will release muscle tension in the pelvis, lower back and abdomen.

Pregnancy

Osteopathy is a gentle and safe treatment, perfect for women during pregnancy.  It can be used to treat common ailments that occur in pregnancy such as back pain, sciatica, fatigue, swelling and insomnia.  Additionally, it can help to prepare the body for birth by ensuring the structure of the body aligns and adapts throughout the different stages of pregnancy.

Post Natal Treatment

After birth, the body works hard to restore itself, however the type of birth and carrying a baby around can lead to postural issues.  Osteopaths can use gentle manipulation to increase the mobility of joints and relieve tension in muscles, with the aim of strengthening the body system as a whole.

Menopause

The symptoms of menopause can be extremely difficult to navigate for some women and include muscle pain, hot flushes, insomnia and depression.  Rebalancing the body with osteopathy can help the body deal with the reduction of oestrogen and cortisol flowing through the body.
